Apparently the UK has recently launched a new "FBI-style" crime fighting force. From the look of the logo it is apparent that this agency will be run by Lion-o and utilized mainly to fight the forces of Mum-Ra.
All anthropomorphic felines aside, The SOCA (Serious Organised Crime Agency) is revealing very little information about itself and seems to be an even more secretive organization then the FBI. This may be an attempt by the Brits to appear more in control of their own homeland security and the logo design is a really blatant pass at making them look strong and dangerous.
There must have been a poll that told government planners that they looked too weak on terrorism and that the needed to "butch" up. I find it funny that in the above linked article that even the BBC, the stodgy old bastion of journalistic integrity, falls victim to the inherent need to make fun of the logo. To me it has the feel of one of those silly supervillain organizations from cartoons, like the Legion of Doom. This illustrates the integral misunderstanding of the zeitgeist that seems to be a job requirement for any sort of public relations in government. Imagine if private companies had this kind of marketing. Toyota would be advertised by Godzilla and Ford would have a logo something like this:
Of course Ford's marketing people would never be dense enough to do this because they are good at what they do and know what their market wants. This kind of ham handed perception manipulation really alienates people from their leaders. Its the same effect as when the U.S. released the Homeland Security Advisory System (Or as I like to call it the paint swatch "o" fear) it was obviously a pathetic attempt to look in control while offering no real information at all. This is the same sort of "Trust us (or else)" garbage that has made us all so jaded over time. Subtlety is a lost art.

Oh yeah, and speaking of needing to upgrade check out the trailer for the new game engine by EA called Crysis, it's amazing.
The gotfrag guys recently put this really great set of articles up detailing how to build different grades of computers. Their "budget" model is essentially what I put together last year for my use for about the same price minus the pci-e which I really regret not getting. I always end up having upgrade remorse because some must have widsget comes out 2 months later and i have to do without for another whole upgrade cycle. I'll never understand people touting any system as "future proof", theres no way any computer can come close to that ideal anytime soon.

Naked lunch is still a good movie. The guy who played William Lee (Peter Weller) is now a professor of Art History in some East coast University. My memory fails me again. Googleing...
He holds a masters degree in Roman and renaisance art and is a professor at Syracuse University.
Robocop would be frightening with these. Pimprims.
